PD-1 (also known as CD279) is an immune checkpoint receptor that negatively regulates immune responses and helps
maintain self-tolerance. Multiple immune cells express PD-1, including T cells, B cells, macrophages and dendritic cells. Binding of PD-1 to PD-L1/PD-L2 will lead to the inhibition of T-cell activation and function. Immunotherapy strategies that inhibit the binding of PD-1 and PD-L1 have shown great efficacy in cancer treatment.
