GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a highly conserved enzyme involved in the glycolytic pathway. It catalyzes the conversion of D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate to 3-phospho-D-glyceroyl phosphate. GAPDH is more than just a glycolytic enzyme; it also participates in processes such as cell signaling, programmed cell death, and DNA repair.
Therefore, GAPDH is considered to be associated with various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular diseases.
GAPDH is commonly regarded as a housekeeping gene due to its critical role in energy metabolism and its widespread
expression across various tissues and cell types. As such, it is often used as a loading control in Western blotting and RT-PCR. Its consistent expression across different experimental conditions makes it a reliable reference for normalization in
quantitative analysis.
